Though Facebook groups are typically seen as a format for large groups of people to come together in interest of a favorite band or sports team, Facebook groups can actually be utilized quite well in a classroom setting. I used the example of my AP Chemistry class in my junior year of high school: because the material was quite difficult, our instructor formed a Facebook group that we could all use when we were struggling with late night labs or cramming for tests. She would post assignments, links to information that could help us, and would also give us windows of time when she would be online if we had questions. It was extremely helpful and much faster than sending emails and waiting for a reply. Even if used just among students, Facebook groups are a great way to collaborate about assignments. Most students in middle and high school are on Facebook and the social networking tool gives everyone an opportunity to connect.
